Our Curriculum

Working together for a successful future

Our Curriculum

At Queensgate Foundation Primary School, we provide a rich, balanced, and inclusive curriculum that enables every child to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. While rooted in the National Curriculum, our approach goes far beyond core subjects to create exciting, real-world learning experiences that engage and inspire.

A key feature of our offer is our Out and About programme, which takes learning beyond the classroom into the local community and natural world. These experiences help pupils develop confidence, curiosity, and a sense of place in their wider environment.

All children take part in Cookery sessions, where they learn practical life skills while exploring healthy eating, food preparation, and teamwork. These lessons are closely linked with learning in science, maths, and PSHE.

In Early Years, children benefit from our dedicated Forest School programme—an outdoor, play-based approach that nurtures independence, creativity, resilience, and a deep connection to nature.

We also value the role of the arts in education. Our Music curriculum allows pupils to express themselves, develop their creativity, and gain confidence through singing, performing, and exploring instruments and rhythm. Children are encouraged to participate in musical events and performances throughout the year.

Through this well-rounded and engaging curriculum, we aim to develop confident, capable, and well-prepared learners who are ready for their next steps in education and life.

Resources and Activities Available to all Children at Queensgate

At Queensgate Foundation Primary School, we are proud to offer a resource-rich environment that supports high-quality teaching and inspires every child to thrive. We believe that the best learning happens when children are engaged, equipped, and excited—and we ensure they have the tools, spaces, and opportunities to do just that.

Technology for Learning

  • We provide excellent access to digital tools, with a Chromebook for every two pupils in Key Stage 2 and one for every four in Key Stage 1. This ensures all children gain the digital skills they need to succeed in a modern, connected world.

Specialist Teaching

  • Our curriculum is enriched through specialist music and cookery teachers, bringing creativity, expression, and practical life skills into everyday learning.

Out & About Curriculum

  • With our own Queensgate minibus, pupils take part in our much-loved Out & About programme, which brings learning to life through meaningful real-world experiences beyond the classroom.

PE and Sport

  • We are well-equipped with a wide range of sporting resources, enabling us to deliver active, engaging, and inclusive PE lessons across all year groups, promoting physical health and teamwork.

Outdoor Learning – The Patch

  • Our dedicated forest school area, The Patch, provides a unique space for outdoor learning. Here, children connect with nature, build resilience, work collaboratively, and develop a lifelong appreciation for the environment.

Overview of Curriculum Intent and Key Data results

At Queensgate, our curriculum is designed with purpose and ambition — aiming to provide every child with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to succeed in learning and in life. Our Curriculum Intent outlines the values and principles that shape teaching and learning across the school, ensuring a rich, inclusive, and well-rounded education for all pupils.

We are proud of our pupils' achievements and regularly review our Key Data Results to monitor progress, celebrate success, and inform our continued development.

National Curriculum

The National Curriculum sets out the subjects and standards all primary schools in England are expected to teach. It ensures that children receive a broad and balanced education, building knowledge and skills progressively from Year 1 through to Year 6.

At Queensgate Foundation Primary School, we follow the National Curriculum as a foundation, enriching it with creative, hands-on experiences and cross-curricular learning to make lessons meaningful, engaging, and accessible for all pupils. Our aim is to provide every child with the essential knowledge they need to become confident, capable learners who are well prepared for the next stage of their education.
